Collection: Bo Bardi

Lina Bo Bardi was born in Italy in 1914 and arrived in Brazil in 1946. She was an architect, a political activist, a designer of furniture and stage sets, an editor and writer and a curator of exhibitions. As a modernist, she used plain forms and concrete.

The Brazil in which she worked was never rich and was often politically turbulent. She was someone who could work with whatever was at hand, including on one occasion off-cuts from the building of stage sets. Bo Bardi attacked the "exterior forms and acrobatics" that she felt devalued the spirit of modern architecture.
